Pricing and Services

Prices are based on square inches (length x width) of the quilt.

  • Quick serpentine meander for when just want to sandwich it all together:  $0.015 per square inch
  • Computerized pantographs:  $0.02 to $0.03 per square inch (depends on density of quilting)
  • Free-motion all-overs:  $0.02 per square inch
  • Light Custom computerized and/or free motion: $0.03 per square inch
  • Custom or Heirloom (see below):  $0.02 to 0.10 per square inch.  I charge by how many days I work on your quilt – $.02 per day.  A day is 8 hours long and I keep track of it diligently.  I can give you an estimate after I have seen the quilt and talked to you about what  you would like done.   Please note heirloom projects take the most time due to the fineness and density of quilting.

Minimum charge:   $35.00

The computerized all-overs give a uniform and very precise quilting experience.  Motifs like ducks, cowboy hats, footballs, and others that are difficult to do freehand, are easily available via a computerized all over.  Whereas the free-motion all-overs are unique, fluid, and organic, often with swirls, leaves, flowers or feathers (and sometimes a mixture!).

Always let me know what you like and what you don’t like.  If you hate feathers or adore straight lines, let me know!  I can help pick the best pattern for you.

Thread

I generally use SuperBob pre-wound bobbins, unless I do not have a specific color and will then use the same as the top thread.

  • Thread is charged $3.00 per bobbin.
  • Thread changes at $3.00 per thread change.

If you have a specific thread request, please make a note and pin to the quilt, otherwise I will use my discretion.

Batting

You do not have to buy your batting from me.  You can use your own.

I offer mostly natural battings as these battings allow the body to “breath” and the user to regulate their heat better, and are recommended for any bed, lap or baby quilt.

  • Quilter’s Dream, 100% Cotton, 90” (low loft): $14.00 per yard
  • Hobbs Heirloom Wool (high loft): $15.00 per yard
  • Hobbs Cotton/Wool blend 90” (medium loft): $15.00 per yard
  • Hobbs 80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend, 108″ (medium loft):  $12.00 per yard

Prices are standard retail, and are subject to change with the market.  Go to the FAQ if you need some assistance in choosing a batting.

Backing

$15 per seam to sew your backing together.

I don’t sell any backing in stock, but please see Quilt Preparation on how you should prepare your quilt back properly.

Other Services

Fabric Preparation is charged at $25 per hour – this includes washing the backing, clipping threads, ironing, and trimming backing to correct size.

If you would like me to apply the binding, let me know and I can tell you how much it will be.  Cost is generally $15 to $40, depending on the size of the quilt.

Rush Charge

Each quilt is returned by a date specified.  If you require it sooner, there is a $30.00 rush charge and is subject to availability.  Contact me directly if you require a rush job and I’ll see what I can do!

Sales Tax

I am a Washington state resident, doing business in King County and the City of Bothell.  Therefore, I must charge sales tax.  Sales Tax is charged at the rate set by the state, which is currently:  $0.095 (9.5%).

Shipping

Most quilts are dropped off and picked up by you, and if you are a Stray Threads member, I am happy to meet you at a general meeting, QTDA or at a local quilt shop.  However, if you like, you can have your quilt shipped to you.  You will be charged the actual price of mailing (whether USPS or UPS), delivery confirmation and insurance plus a $10 handling fee. The insurance value will be calculated at three times the value of the quilting charges.

Paying

Acceptable forms of payment are Cash, Check or Credit Card (VISA, Mastercard, Discover and American Express).  Payment is due when you pick up the quilt.

Photographs

Every quilt is photographed at the end of the process for my gallery.  If you do not want a picture taken (say for a surprise Birthday Present), just let me know!

Prices effective October 2015 and are subject to change at any time.

Notes:
I only take a 3-4 heirloom quilting projects per year as they are very time intensive, though I do enjoy doing them.  Heirloom quilting includes Stitch-In-the-Ditch, custom motifs, and background fills.  Heirloom quilting can be for traditional or modern quilts.  Keep in mind that I do not quilt so dense that the quilt will not be unusable on a bed (too much thread can make a quilt stiff).  Contact me directly at regan@moxlidesigns.com (425-802-0719) if you are interested in heirloom quilting and we can discuss.  Typical heirloom quilting can take 3 to 6 weeks.

At this point I do not quilt for a juried quilt show.  A juried quilt show has a monetary reward for winning and a panel of judges reviews each quilt.  A juried show quilt requires burying threads and a fineness of quilting that is very time consuming and intense.
